Reflect and Remember

You’ve been home for about a month and I’m sure it’s felt like a whirlwind. From seeing friends and family to unpacking and trying to process what just happened, it probably was and could still be overwhelming at times.

I remember coming home from my first summer in 2009. I was thrown back into reality rather quickly upon receiving some hard news. Everything I had learned over the summer felt like it was fading into the background and I had only been home for a couple of days. As days and weeks passed by, the reality was finally sinking in and I knew I could do one of two things:

  1. Numb out, pretend I don’t care, unplug from church, and tell as few people as possible.
  2. Stay engaged, feel my feelings, stay rooted in my church community, and bring my mentors along the messy journey.

Does this sound familiar? Maybe you’re walking through a similar thing?

I ended up choosing #2, by the power of the Holy Spirit and the grace of God. I started going back to all of the things the Father taught me on my trip, and would you believe that they were all the things He had been working on in my heart the last six weeks?

The things He taught you this summer still apply to what you’re facing back home. The same God you worshipped with other brothers and sisters around the globe is the same God who sees you at home. He’s the same God who got you through tough moments at Training Camp and/or overseas.

Reflect. Remember.

Write down one truth that impacted you from the summer, put it somewhere where you’ll see it everyday, and trust His heart for you and towards you.

Don’t numb out. Stay engaged.

We’re in your corner and we look forward to hearing some of the things He taught you.
