Ireland Update 2 - Sight & Sound

Sights and Sounds

Throughout the summer, we make time to experience the culture and see some exciting places in Ireland.   After leaving Londonderry, we stopped at Dunluce Castle.  You can’t go to Ireland and not stop and see a castle!  The weather was perfect, and we walked around, took pictures, and learned about the MacDonnell clan that once lived there.

The next stop seemed to be our team’s favorite so far this year.  We were able to visit and hike around the shoreline at Giant’s Causeway.  It is an area of hexagonal shaped rock pillars that were forced up out of the ground.  The same stones can be found under water between Ireland and Scotland as well as on Scotland’s shoreline (straight across from Giant’s Causeway).  Students were able to hike around on the rocks and admire God’s creation.

Once we left Giant’s Causeway, we began our trek to Dundonald, an eastern suburb of Belfast.  We have already been able to explore the capital city, traveling into it by train.  The team was able to meet many local people and have conversations about why we were there and the life of Jesus.  Another joy and answer to prayer was good weather, lots of people, and a lack of other street performers.  Because of that, we were able to perform our dance and drama on the streets of Belfast.  It drew large crowds, and we were able to have lots of great conversations with those who watched.  Please pray that the people we were able to share with continue to be thinking about what a relationship with God could look like.

We are now in the final week of ministry before debriefing.  It is a week full of 2 kids clubs each day and youth nights all weekend.  One of the kids clubs will keep us very busy with about 150 kids currently signed up.  We will also have more opportunities for street evangelism and conversations.  The team is doing well.  Attitudes are up, and there is an excitement to be involved in doing ministry.  I am confident this will be a successful and fulfilling week of ministry.  Thank you for your continued prayer.
