One week isn’t a lot of time to solve all the challenges the world faces. But there’s a lot we can do. This trip is intended to be the first visit in what we hope could be a long partnership with the church in Sarchi. So this trip will be a lot of firsts and a lot of exploring what possibilities lie ahead.
We’ll be serving the people of Costa Rica in some direct practical ways: English tutoring/culture exchange and jumping in some service projects. We’ll also be participating and serving with the youth ministry in the area, seeking to encourage other young believers in their faith. We’ll be building relationships all over the place and sharing the gospel whenever we can. In addition, we’ll be taking time to learn about Costa Rican culture, issues surrounding poverty and how we can help, and growing in our own faith. You’ll see how prayer, intercession, and worship will play a huge role in our ministry and impact.
On this trip you will have the very unique and immersive experience of staying in host homes. You’ll live and eat and fellowship with local Costa Rican families. These are families who belong to the church we are serving and partnering with in Sarchi, and they are excited to partner with you to share the gospel in Costa Rica. Hospitality is a love language to the Costa Ricans, so this experience will be one to remember. You won’t be alone but will be grouped with other SCCS students in these homes. You’ll plan to eat most of your dinners and breakfasts with your host, and we will eat lunches together as a team.
This trip is for St. Cloud Christian School junior and senior students. Plan for long days, a lot of walking, and living without some of your normal everyday comforts. But this is a trip that can accommodate almost any student with a heart to serve and a desire to experience new things. You don’t have to be a professional evangelist or a flawless Christian. This will be a chance to practice talking about your faith with other people, building new relationships, and gaining some new ministry skills. And do you speak any Spanish? That’s “muy bueno,” but not required.
While fundraising can be a daunting task, and the idea of asking people to help you cover the cost of this trip might be intimidating to you, we believe that there are many people out there who know you and would love the chance to invest into something so worthwhile. It is an amazing experience to see God provide for an opportunity like this through the people in your life. We can help you figure out how to get the word out and show people you are ready to serve God in Costa Rica. We are happy to coach you through the process and hope that you don’t hesitate to take us up on the offer.
We will gather and depart St. Cloud Christian School early Saturday morning, April 15. We will travel as a group to MSP airport for our morning flight. The team will return to MSP on Saturday, April 22. The team will be led by one staff from Reign Ministries as well as multiple SCSS faculty members.
The cost of this mission trip is $2290, and you must register by January 5, 2023. This cost covers airfare, food, lodging, and transportation in Costa Rica. The cost also covers a group t-shirt and international travel health insurance. You will have the option to upgrade your travel insurance plan to include higher levels of coverage. Please note that a recommended $100 in spending money is not included in the cost of this trip and is the responsibility of the participant. You must register by January 5, 2023, and once your online registration is complete and we receive your $100 deposit, we will send you a Prep Packet that will contain all the info you need to prepare for the trip. In order for us to purchase your airfare to Costa Rica, the first $900 is due February 5, 2023 (which will include your $100 deposit), and the remaining cost of the trip is due April 5, 2023.
