Temptation by Distraction

Here I am sitting in the Reign Ministries office, totally and completely distracted. My mind is running a million miles a minute (wish my legs could do the same thing!). I have a long to-do list, but I cannot cross off even the easiest task! There are too many distractions–mostly 40 other people. In just a few days, I leave for Training Camp to begin preparing for you to come! Yet here I am, distracted by everything going on around me.

Temptation is much like distraction. In fact, distraction can be a form of temptation! Right before we attempt something big for God (like a mission trip), we are often overwhelmed with busy schedules, packing, saying goodbye, and hanging out with friends. Even though these activities are good in and of themselves, they can divert us from what’s really important–our relationship with God.

Over the next month, Satan is going to try his hardest to get you down and cause you to sin because he wants your ministry this summer to be ineffective. If he can persuade you to slip up now, it will affect you this summer. Rather than being prepared for Jesus to use you right when you arrive, you will have to invest time in undoing the damage of sin first. Thus your ministry and growth time will be decreased.

So here’s the plan: don’t allow Satan to use even the tiniest temptation to distract you from your purpose this summer. Stay focused on Jesus by spending time in His Word and by talking with Him. Surround yourself with positive people who will point you to Jesus. And get ready to experience God in ways you never have before!
