Kenya Update 1 2025

On our first full day here in Kenya, a student began remarking that we are already almost halfway through our first week. Due to travel delays and the time change, we ended up losing a day, and began our work on Tuesday. It was a jarring realization to hear, since we were just getting started. It helped to put into perspective just how limited our time here is.
Travel days can be a challenge because there is not an obvious time for ministry, but our team made the most of every opportunity presented to them. On the plane, many of them were having gospel conversations with those seated next to them.
One student, Fiona, shared with the team her about a man and woman she was seated with. They asked her what she was going to Kenya for. After sharing with them that she was going to share the gospel, the woman asked "What is the Gospel?" As they talked more, Fiona was able to share the Gospel with them, tell them who Jesus is, and even pray with them. The woman remarked that she had experienced a peace that she had not felt in a long time after that prayer.
Another student, Abigail, got into a 2 hour long conversation with the man next to her. He was Muslim, but was curious about the differences in their faiths. He asked her why she was going to Kenya and how she felt the call to go. Abigail was able to share her testimony with him and her heart for missions. She told me that she was so encouraged to have a conversation with someone who was questioning and weighing what the faith is true. He was so impressed with how much Abigail was able to share with him.
Later on, the team passed him in the airport and he waved to her and sent her off with encouragement.
Since arriving in Kenya, our students have done an incredible job fighting jet lag and adjusting to our new rhythm of life. On Tuesday, the DICE team arrived and we began to prepare for our ministry. Our time with the team was spent learning dances and skits to share in schools that we will be ministering in. DICE does a fantastic job of preparing lessons that meet Kenyan students in the midst of their struggles and points them to Christ. Our focus this week has been teaching about self esteem and thier self worth in Christ.
On Wednesday, we started serving in schools, teaching our lesson and then breaking students into small groups for discussion. Our team members joined small groups with the Kenyans and were able to share their own stories of struggles with self esteem and the ways they have seen God in their lives. The team has incorporated some teaching from Training Camp into their discussion with Kenyan students, like the "Identity in Christ" teaching. We have even seen some Kenyan students put their faith in Christ during our discussions!
Time passes so quickly, especially with long days of ministry, but the team has been working so hard and no moment has been missed. As we continue on in our ministry, please join us in praying for unity in our team and with the DICE team, for the gospel to be received and for lives to be changed, and that in all we do we would bring glory to God!
