What if I’m Unable to Raise Enough Mission Trip Support?

worried-no-money.jpg

Mr. Halseth,

I have a question, what if I am unable to raise enough money for the trip?... I really want to go on a mission trip! I feel like I need to go. I need to share my stories and give to others.

Thanks,
Madeline

Madeline,

That's a good question and one that often gets asked. You are not alone. Raising support is often a reason that many students don’t follow Gods call into missions. It sounds like you have a call by God, but pray for the faith to trust and believe that He will provide.

Before I answer your question directly though, I first want to encourage you. In the years I have been involved in short-term missions (10 years) I have never seen a student unable to raise their funds IF they truly believe they are called by God to go. In other words, if you trust that God is calling you to go on a mission trip AND you are willing to do the hard work of raising your support, then I believe God will provide for your needs.

The students I have seen struggle with finances are those who doubt their calling and don't put forth the effort and just "wait and see" if God brings in the money. It does not matter if you come from a family who has money or not. God owns everything and He certainly is able to do his part and provide if you are willing to do your part. As a help, we have all the tools necessary for your support development.

If you put forth all your effort, and in the unlikely event are unable to raise your funds, we can hold the funds you raised for one year only. In the following year you can apply that support, less penalties/costs, toward any of our mission trips. If you are not planning to come on a mission trip in the following year, your support will be designated towards our scholarship fund for other students in need.

I hope this answers your question and you are encouraged. Whenever I am doing something big for God, I always remember a great quote from George Mueller--a man who believed in God’s provision and cared for over 10,000 orphans in his lifetime. He said, “Work with all your might but trust not the least in your work.” Or another way of saying it is, “work with all your strength, (like it is all up to you), but don’t trust in your work, (because it’s all up to God!)"

I can honestly say that this statement has held true for me because I have seen God do just that and provide for me over the 10 years I have been in full-time ministry. God is faithful to his promises!

"And my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus." --Philippians 4:19

Let me know if you have more questions.

Matt

Agreed. If it is your will by God, he will provide a way.

In 2002, i was involved with a Summer of Service with YWAM ... and I needed about 300$ the night before we left.

ME and my mom were trying to come up with it. We came upon a tub of pennies that had been stashed away, alas there was about 600$ worth of pennies in the tub, enough for me to have extra spending money when I was away for the summer.

God will provide. Its only the question of if you will let him and you have the faith too let him.

I want to say what everyone else is trying to say: PRAY AND TRUST GOD. But that's something He has to teach you if you will let Him. What if can be the start of something that just grows in you and destroys your faith. I'm not saying you should believe that God is always going to do everything your way; He's not a genie in a bottle. But if He has called you to go as I believe He has, He will make it happen, His way, and at the right time. It could very well be that teaching you to trust Him is one of the main reasons He has called you to go. But if He has you are in a very cool place right now. Take a deep breath, smile a lot, and just praise Him for what He's going to do in you. You may think it's about helping others and that is part of it. But what it's really about is what He wants to in you.

So,I know that God wants me to on a mission trip!!
The way I earn money is babysitting a LOT!!
I'm homeschooled so I have an advantage over other kids to babysit more than them!!!!!
But when I do babysit I say that I'm rasing money to go on a mission and if they know of anybody that needs a babysitter, to please pass my number!! But it's DEFINATLY a huge faith tester!!

Just trust God that every thing will work it's self out. I went on Royal Servants Nepal 07 trip I needed my passport about $2000, my visa, all within 6 weeks or less. It was a lot of hard work but God provided the way. By the way my passport came 3 days before I left it took 6 weeks to the day. This all happened when expediting passports took some people 18 weeks!

I agree with Matt and as a former Royal Servant over 14 years ago I can remember God working in my fund raising and the whole team's fund raising. A couple nights before we all left boot camp I can remember us all praying for the 3 or 5 thousand we still needed. The next day we found out it was all there! God is in control and hears our prayers!
