Frequently Asked Questions - Parents
For parents considering Royal Servants
We will send you all the materials and information you need to raise support. We even include envelopes! We also outline a very simple plan for your student to use in raising their support. If a student commits to call a few people each night for a few weeks, we find that they are fully funded in no time!
We have an entire prep packet devoted to helping your students prepare for the summer. Included in this packet is a detailed packing list. This will help you prepare the supplies your student needs for the summer. As soon as we receive your students's application, we will mail out the prep packet.
Mail is very reliable during Training Camp and for most teams overseas. And, care packages are welcome. Phone access can be limited when teams are traveling in remote areas. Many times they will be in a town with only a few or no public phones and with only intermittent Internet access. E-mail is getting better all the time, but it is not a guarantee. It depends upon the location. This is a paradigm shift for our 24/7 connected by phone, computers, fax and cell phone society. Students are encouraged to contact. As a ministry, we are in constant contact with our team leaders and will send out updates as they become available from the team leadership.
Training Camp is held at a Bible camp in Lewistown, Illinois. Lewistown is a small farming community about 45 miles SW of Peoria, IL and approximately 3 1/2 hours from Chicago. Students can either drive directly to Training Camp or meet us in Chicago by flying or driving. Detailed information about arrival times and return times from overseas will be available in mid-April. We ask that you wait until you receive that information before booking your flight to Training Camp.
The cost of the trip includes international airfare, accommodations, ministry supplies, team food, and Training Camp. Each student must also supply a personal spending money amount. There are some additional costs such as obtaining a passport and domestic travel (expenses associated with getting to Training Camp and home from Chicago at the end of the summer). For a complete explanation of these expenses, click here.
The application fee covers the basic administrative costs surrounding the application process. It does not go towards the cost of the trip.
