Trip Overview
Each Royal Servants short-term mission trip follows the same basic blueprint. The blueprint is modified to meet the specific needs for each ministry location.
Each mission trip has three phases: 1) Training Camp, 2) outreach, and 3) debriefing. For participants, Training Camp is a little over a week long and occurs during the last week of June. For summer-staff-disciplers, Training Camp begins one week earlier (third week of June).
Training Camp prepares you for going overseas. During your week of Training Camp, you will experience team teaching, Bible study, small group discussions, Bible memorization, prayer, team building, and leadership training. You will also practice in a skill group to help you present the gospel overseas. Skill groups include dance, drama, music, and puppets. In addition, some teams specialize in soccer, basketball, language camps, or other activities relevant for the location. In Costa Rica soccer opens a lot of doors. In China students spend most their time interacting with Chinese students in English language and culture clinics. Training Camp is the place where you will prepare for your ministry activity that will take place on the outreach phase.
All mission trips finish Training Camp at the same time, and fly overseas to begin the outreach phase on June 29. Once overseas, you begin to reach out and share the gospel with the local people. During the outreach phase, you will continue the Bible study, memorization, discipleship, worship, and prayer you started and Training Camp.
During the last week of your time overseas, your team will begin to prepare to come home. We call this week debriefing. Though some teams spend more time in the outreach phase, all teams have the same amount of time set aside for debriefing. Debriefing is a time for you to focus on returning home, to look back over your experience with God and see how He worked in and through your life, and to prepare yourself to carry what you have learned overseas, back to school or church. Many of our mission trips do their debriefing at a location outside their ministry site. Mission trips in Europe often go to London; mission trips in a single country, like China or Costa Rica often go to another city like Beijing or San Jose.
Each Royal Servants mission trips is specially designed for students ages 13 through college-age. Our passion is to help you experience God and allow Him to work through you to reach others with His truth. We staff our mission trips with staff disciplers and Sr. staff. Staff disciplers are college-age students who participate on the mission trip and lead discipleship groups of three to five students. Only full-time Reign staff members who have years of overseas ministry experience can lead our mission trips.
The published costs of your trip cover your food, accommodations, and international travel expenses for Training Camp, outreach, and debriefing. But there are some expenses you may incur that are not covered in the published cost. For instance, you will have to cover your travel expenses to get to Training Camp. You may need a passport or some immunizations, or you may need to purchase some required items on the packing list. For a complete list of expenses you might incur, click here.
