June 13 to July 25, 2009 [6 weeks] |
The Ukraine mission trip is 5 weeks long for participants and 6 weeks long for college-age staff disciplers. It begins on June 20 for participants and June 13 for staff disciplers. You return on July 25. You are required to raise $3,595 plus your spending money. So you go longer, do more ministry, and develop lasting relationships.
The Gist of Your Ministry...
You will work with your team in the port city Odessa on the Black Sea. Your team will focus its ministry in massive concrete block apartment complexes. There hundreds, sometimes even thousands, of people are living in one city block. Together, we will reach out to them with the gospel. While the Orthodox Church has a presence in The Ukraine, most don't truly understand the gospel. Yet many are interested in talking about spiritual things. We will work with a local church, hang with students in Odessa, and develop meaningful relationships with students and families.
If you are a basketball player, put your skills to work on this short-term missions trip. You will play with locals to gain opportunities to share Christ with them. You will help run a basketball camp for local youth of Odessa during the week and follow up on the relationships built throughout the rest of your time. Learn more here.
If you prefer drama, dance, or puppets, you will reach out through public mini-performances that will draw attention and open doors to share about Christ. Children especially come out of the woodwork to see these types of performances, and through them we will be able to reach out to their families.
The Ukraine has a lot of orphans. Several problems have led to this sad fact, but as part of our ministry, we will likely visit one of the orphanages to share Christ's love.
Prayer, worship, quiet time, and small group discussions are part of our daily routine.
Adventure...
Odessa is the largest city on the Black Sea and the fifth largest city in the Ukraine. You'll enjoy the beaches, the architecture, and harbor activity. The summer is the best time to visit this city. Everything is in bloom and the rolling hills are beautiful.
