You will share Christ in the "Emerald Isle" and be used by God to reach out to a people that have rejected what they once believed about Christ. It's truly a post-Christian society. The Ireland mission trip is a five week team. So, if you are looking for a mission trip that leaves much of your June and all of your August free, Ireland is a great option. You are required to raise $3,095 plus your spending money.
The Heart of Your Ministry…
First, you'll be working with a local church reaching out in Londonderry, Northern Ireland. You will work with the church's youth group, run Bible clubs, and plan student events at the church. You will also perform on the downtown streets.
Then head to the beach--not to swim, you will freeze to death--to minister in the beachside town of Skerries. You will join former Royal Servants students, Cory and Gwen Peters, to minister to this Dublin bedroom community. You will be doing a kids club during the day, youth outreach performances in afternoons and evenings, and evangelism on the beach and in the center of Dublin.
There really is nothing for the Irish youth here, and they are very interested to know more about a relationship with Christ. They are so open. I think having a group of students come and hang out with them and share the Word with them would be incredible. --Cory
Adventure…
You are going to see a lot of Ireland this summer. Between ministry opportunities, you will wander in the city of Derry, which is in Northern Ireland, and explore ancient Dublin, which is in the Republic of Ireland and was originally a Viking settlement. You will be able to drink tea in cozy shops, buy Lion Bars, which some students claim are the best candy bars in the world, and enjoy listening to the Irish talk to you!
The trip will debrief for five nights in London, England. In between debriefing sessions, you will explore and enjoy the city. You get time to shop in the markets, see the museums, and tour with your friends. Go ahead--act like you know how to speak UK English while you order sausages and mash from a local restaurant.
New Friends...
Friendships develop fast as you search together for shamrocks, look for leprechauns, and eat Lucky Charms. OK, forget the shamrocks, leprechauns, and Lucky Charms. You and your teammates will work hard together preparing at Training Camp. Your appreciation for each other's strengths and gifts will grow. You will develop a loving acceptance of their weaknesses, because in five weeks of ministry together, they will see yours! But that's the good stuff, learning how to love each other for who you are. That is the way Jesus said it should be. You will walk away from the mission trip with friendships that will not only encourage you but give you strength!
Spiritual Transformation...
Ministering to the Irish will give you a first-hand look at a people that once followed Christ but have since rejected him. Come face-to-face with two "religions"--Catholic and Protestant--that refuse live in peace. Come face-to-face with those who instead live a lives centered on the empty promises that consumerism offers. It will challenge you to a renewed commitment to follow Jesus more closely!
On all of our mission trips your spiritual growth is a priority. When you immerse yourself in the Bible during your quiet times, share in your discipleship groups, memorize scripture, pray together, and worship together on a daily basis, you'll grow! That transformation will come full-circle as you share your faith, giving away to others what God is giving to you!
